Veterans Film

Helping veterans turn their stories into powerful films with hands-on training and support.

From Service to Storytelling

At Liberty County Film Society, Inc., we believe the discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills veterans bring from military service are exactly what film production needs. Our Veteran Transition Training Program is designed to help service members and veterans step confidently into the world of film and media arts.

Technical Skills

Film production involves a wide range of tools; from cameras and lighting to sound and editing software, and those tools are always evolving. Our program introduces participants to industry‑standard equipment and workflows, with an emphasis on learning by doing. Veterans often find that their prior experience with structured training and problem‑solving helps them pick up these skills quickly, but the program is designed to support learners at every level.

Collaboration & Leadership

Film production is a collective effort where timing, communication, and trust are everything. From camera operators to production assistants, every role must align to keep the project moving forward. Veterans bring a unique strength in coordinating with others, staying focused under pressure, and ensuring that complex tasks come together smoothly. Their ability to work as part of a team makes them a natural fit for the collaborative rhythm of a film set.

Storytelling Power

Storytelling helps people process experiences, share perspectives, and connect with others. Veterans bring unique life experiences that can resonate deeply with audiences. By learning the craft of filmmaking, participants gain tools to turn insight into narratives that spark dialogue and inspire change.

The film and media industry offers opportunities far beyond directing or acting. Skilled crew members are needed in production management, cinematography, sound, lighting, editing, logistics, and more. Our program introduces participants to multiple areas of production so they can discover where their strengths fit, build a portfolio of credits, and prepare for careers in film, television, or digital media.

Veteran Storytelling & Project Support

At Liberty County Film Society, we believe every veteran has a story worth telling. Beyond training on film sets, we provide dedicated support to help veterans develop and share their own creative projects.

How We Help Veterans Tell Their Stories
  • Creative Development We guide veterans through the process of shaping their ideas into scripts, treatments, or documentary outlines. Whether it’s a personal narrative, a fictional story, or a community‑focused project, we provide mentorship to bring concepts to life.

  • Production Assistance Veterans can access our equipment and volunteer crews to help film their projects. From cameras and lighting to editing suites, we make professional‑grade resources available to ensure their stories are captured with quality.

  • Mentorship & Collaboration Experienced filmmakers and instructors work alongside veterans, offering feedback, technical guidance, and creative support throughout the production process.

  • Showcasing Work Completed projects have opportunities to be screened at our festivals, community events, and online platforms — giving veterans a stage to share their voices with audiences near and far.
