FAQs
Who can volunteer for practical training?
Anyone with an interest in film and media arts is welcome. We especially encourage students, emerging filmmakers, and community members who want hands‑on experience. No prior experience is required , just enthusiasm and reliability.
What kind of training will I receive?
Volunteers learn by doing. You’ll rotate through real crew roles such as lighting, sound, production assistance, and more. Each project is supervised by experienced mentors who provide guidance and feedback.
Do I need to bring my own equipment?
No. All equipment is provided by Liberty County Film Society. You’ll be trained on professional‑grade cameras, audio gear, and editing software. If you have your own gear, you’re welcome to learn how to integrate it into a production.
How much time do I need to commit?
We offer flexible opportunities. Some volunteers join for a single shoot day, while others commit to multi‑day productions or ongoing workshops. You can indicate your availability when you sign up.
Will I get school credit or professional references?
We can provide documentation of your volunteer hours and training activities, which may qualify for school credit depending on your institution. We also provide letters of reference for volunteers who complete significant training hours.
Is there any cost to participate?
No. Training is free for volunteers. In fact, your participation helps us create films, festivals, and events that benefit the community.
Can I use the experience on my résumé or portfolio?
Absolutely. You’ll receive on‑set credits for your work, and you can use finished projects as portfolio pieces. Many volunteers use this experience to prepare for future jobs or advanced study in film and media.
Where does the training take place?
Training happens on active film sets and at community event venues. Locations vary by project, and details are shared in advance.
Can I keep volunteering after my first project?
Yes! Many volunteers return for multiple productions and gradually take on more advanced roles. We encourage long‑term involvement and mentorship opportunities.
